Weedy Weedy Weeds
The carrot seeds aren't growing — time to dig, dig, dig the weeds!
About this song
Weedy Weedy Weeds is a little gardening drama: carrot seeds are planted, watered morning and night — and all that grows is weeds! The chant chorus ("Weedy, weedy, weeds! Not helping my seeds!") builds to a physical breakdown where everyone digs, tugs and shakes together, until the carrots finally have room to grow.
It quietly teaches a real gardening truth — weeds steal space from seedlings — and gives children a satisfying job to mime along with. The ending is pure triumph: and now my carrots GROW!
What it teaches: How plants grow, patience, cause and effect, action play.
Weedy Weedy Weeds — Lyrics
A couple of days ago,
I planted little carrot seeds.
But instead of seeing them grow,
I got nothing but weeds!
Where did they come from? (I don't know!)
Why won't they leave? (I don't know!)
Do we need a new pot? (No, no, no!)
Do we need more weeds? (No, no, no!)
Weedy, weedy, weeds! (Weedy, weedy, weeds!)
Not — helping — my — seeds! (Not — helping — my — seeds!)
Weedy, weedy, weeds! (Weedy, weedy, weeds!)
Not — helping — my — seeds! (Not — helping — my — seeds!)
A couple of days went by,
I watered them morning and night.
My little carrot sprouts were weak —
But the weeds were doing fine!
Get the shovel! (Dig! Dig! Dig!)
Pull 'em out! (Tug! Tug! Tug!)
Shake the dirt off! (Shake-shake-shake!)
Now my carrots have room to grow —
Ready? Set? Here — we — GO!
Weedy, weedy, weeds!
Not-help-ing-my-seeds!
Weedy, weedy, weeds!
Let's dig-dig-dig the weeds!
…and now my carrots GROW!
